FERN Ski Bikes MOVE while the world stands still
Many seasons ago while persevering with the traditional snow-sport options FERN’s engineering director, Derek had another painful fall. It was with each knock and sprain in the snow that he thought more seriously ‘I just want to ride my bike’.
It took Derek almost 3 decades of risk and reward before he suffered a fractured bone and it was one doctors order ‘give the planks a rest’ before he decided to try ski biking. With that he fabricated the first prototype.
Soon after, FERN’s founder rode run after run all day at the Turoa Ski Field “it was incredible, it was everything and just the beginning, at the same time.” With that flame of inspiration and unlimited motivation engineering continued for several years over back to back seasons both sides of the equator. Prototypes travelled in suitcases through Europe and Iran while Derek tuned and re-built each one for the conditions. The prototype Ski Bikes rapidly became reliable, controllable and safe. Today, FERN Ski Bikes truly are an alternative to traditional snow sports equipment.
In 2019 FERN Ski Bikes were released in small batch production designed to free the rider from bindings and bring the mountain bikers the world of snow sport.
